In 1904 Kinkaid Homestead Act opens settlement of Sand Hills and Panhandle regions. In 1933 State declares suspension of farm mortgage foreclosures. In 1939 Petroleum is discovered in southeastern Nebraska. In 1942 Completion of Kingsley Dam creates Lake C. W. McConaughy. In 1948 Strategic Air Command headquarters is established near Omaha. In 1985 defaulted farm loans cause failure of 13 banks. In 1987 Nebraska legislature adopts two measures that authorize tax incentives for businesses intending to create new jobs in the state.
